Twice-Baked Concrete

Research
at Rock House

Dominican Republic
Twice-Baked Concrete is a unique cast-in-place concrete system. Dyed concrete is poured offsite and crushed into chunks. The colored chunks are used as aggregate within a white concrete mix for the structural shell of the Rock House. Sandblasting and chipping exposes the colorful aggregate beneath the white cement skin, creating a misreading of weathering decay or moss like growth.
